St Mary's Guild

‘The Guild of St Mary’s Thame’ was formed on the 1st August 1905. The Guild consisted of a small group of ladies to keep the East End of the church in as perfect order as possible, and provide Floral Decorations at the chief festivals. The ladies would pay 1/- per year to be a member, this helped pay for the costs of any items needed to fulfil their duties.

Today St Mary’s Guild continues to support St Mary’s church in much the same way. The Guild consists of nearly 20 members. Some of us meet every Friday afternoon to clean the chancel & church, also to provide flowers for the weekly services held in St Mary’s. All members help with Easter, Harvest & Christmas arrangements. We also help, if required to do floral arrangements for weddings and funerals.

Over the past few years we have raised money for many of the new church furnishings. In October each year we hold our Autumn Fayre, this money goes into our Flower Fund to provide the church flowers. In May we help with St Mary’s Church Flower Festival, this raises money for any church project which may need funding. This has become a great community event with over 65 different groups, organisations & individuals from Thame & surrounding villages talking part, and has over a 1,000 visitors during the weekend.

St Mary’s Guild supports The Thames Valley Police Road Peace Service & St Mary’s Bereavement Team Service, held each year in St Mary’s.

St Mary’s Guild continues to be a service to St Mary’s Church & the people of our community who use our beautiful church building.  To find out more about the Guild, or to contact them, please contact the church office.
