In infant baptism, parents are thanking God for His gift of life, deciding to start their children on the journey of faith and asking the Christian Community – the Church – for its support.
Baptism marks the beginning of a journey of faith
For a child, baptism marks the beginning of a journey of faith, which involves finding out more about Jesus and learning to follow him, and being part of the Christian Community – both local and worldwide.
Baptisms at St Mary’s take place in our 10am Sunday morning services, usually on the first Sunday of the month. We invite all parents who approach us about baptism to a Baptism Preparation Evening. At this Evening we have a meal together, followed by a short talk about baptism (and about an alternative, a thanksgiving), and an opportunity for our guests to ask any questions they have. After your child’s baptism a member of our church community will visit you in your home. They will bring with them your child’s baptism certificate and information about church events and activities in the church for children and families.
